Rafael Palmeiro was suspended today for steroids. Was anyone surprised? I was, kindof. Here was a guy that was a true hall of famer. Over 3000 hits and over 500 homers. True milestones. But what does baseball do now? Everyone knows that baseball wants the big home runs. The fastest pitchers. It brings in the money. Who wants to go and see a 2-1 ballgame or a 15-2 ballgame? Well a true baseball fan does. I onced watched a perfect game, allbeit a spring training game, but it was a pefect game pitched with four different pitchers. That was four years ago. How do I know that those pitchers were not using some type of steroids to enhance their perfomance and help their bodies heal? I don't.
This is why Bobby Bonds will not be back in baseball. Sosa can barely hit softball let a lone a Clemens fast ball. Looking at the stats as of today, there are some good races in the various categories but none of them stand out going into August. Some of the regulars are there and then there are some new ones. Regardless I don't think it will be the same for me as a baseball fan. Who is and who is not doping? I will never know the truth now. Baseball is a fun game to go and watch but we can never know if the game is pure now.
